  • John Scharff Migratory Bird Festival is held the first full weekend in April, seminars, classes, tours and birding adventures are featured. Lions Fly-In Breakfast is held at the Burns Airport on the first Saturday in June. Features airplane Irides, displayed aircraft and motorcycles. Harney County Ranch Horse Sale is held at the fairgrounds on the first Saturday of June, and is comprised of horses that are ranch raised in Eastern Oregon. Quilt Show & Exhibition is held in downtown Burns and showcases the skills and talents of local quilters, start three days before the first Saturday in June. Obsidian Days is held in Hines park and features gem dealers from several states who display rocks and gems from allover the world. Obsidian Days takes place on the second Saturday of June. Pioneer Day is the second Saturday of June and is sponsored by the Harney County Pioneer Association. Old Time Music Jamboree is held in June the weekend before the National Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho. Old Time fiddlers and music buffs jam session includes contests and workshops. 'Bell A' Cutting Horse Association Celebration is held at the famous Bell A ranch near Burns and starts on the last Thursday in June and lasts 4 days. Concessions, shaded bleachers, no admission and western style BBa's are featured with the Cutting event. Basque Festival is held each year in June and shares the Basque heritage with food, dances and games. Steens Mountain Rim Run & Walk takes place the first Saturday in August and starts at Jackman Park, and finishes at the mountains east rim. Other festivities are held at Frenchglen during the event. Frenchglen Jamboree held the first Saturday in August, live music, kid's events, team branding and doctoring, western BBa and a dance are all scheduled. Desen Dash Motorcycle & Antique Car Rally held the third weekend in August. Three days of games, rallies, poker runs and car shows, live music, dancing and a raffle for a Harley Davidson. Held at the Fairgrounds. Harney County Fair, Rodeo & Race Meet is held every September, activities usually start the Tuesday after Labor Day. Exhibits, parades, carnival, horse show, rodeo, horse races and pari- mutuel betting are all a part of the week long county fair. Steens Mountain Men Rendezvous is usually held the third weekend of September and includes activities of reenactment of the pre-1840's era, camps, primitive bowl trail, black powder rifle displays with a traders row and fellowship. Burns Paiute Reservation Day Pow Wow held on the second weekend in October, festivities include traditional dancing and drumming, dress and dance competition with crafts and food booths. Wine & Food Festival benefiting the Harney County Hospice held in November is an evening of gourmet food and wine tasting with live music and dancing. Harney County Homemakers Christmas Fair is held the first Saturday in December in the Memorial Building at the fairgrounds and displays art, crafts and has food booths - there are no commercial vendors for this event, everything must be home made.
